Biografie
Johannes Simon wurde 1960 in München geboren. Er lebt aktuell im Morvan, einer Gegend in Frankreich etwa 230 km Kilometer südlich von Paris.
Als Sohn des Kunstmalers Erwin Schott und seiner kunstsinnigen Mutter Berta Simon, wächst er in einem literarisch-philosophisch und kunsthistorisch interessierten Milieu auf.
Er studierte Kunstgeschichte, Philosophie und Latein des Mittelalters in München und Heidelberg (Magister-Abschluss) und zwischen 1984 und 1989 dann Malerei und Grafik an der Staatlichen Kunstakademie Karlsruhe (Abschluss mit Diplom). Dort erste intensive Beschäftigung mit der Fotografie.
Tätigkeit als freischaffender Kunstmaler, ab 1992 als Fotograf für Münchner Merkur und Süddeutsche Zeitung.
Ab 2000 Pressefotograf für die DDP Nachrichten-Agentur, von 2007 bis 2008 bei der Foto-Agentur Getty Images. Bis 2018 schwerpunktmäßig für die Süddeutsche Zeitung in München beschäftigt. 2018 Umzug nach Frankreich mit der Option zur Realisierung eigener künstlerischer Projekte.
Neben seiner Tätigkeit als Fotograf ist Simon immer auch der Malerei treu geblieben, er ist zwischenzeitlich Vorsitzender der Künstlervereinigung Fürstenfeldbruck und stellt immer wieder im In- und Ausland aus.

Johannes Simon was born 1960 in Munich, Germany. Since 2018 he has been based in the Morvan region of France (about 230 km south of Paris).
From his early youth Johannes passionately pursued a range of artistic expression, particularly in the fine arts. Supported by his mother Berta Simon, he visited art galleries and museums in Munich and developed a gift for drawing and painting that he inherited from his father and grandfather (Johannes’s father was the painter Erwin Schott).
Johannes studied art history, philosophy and medieval Latin at Munich and Heidelberg universities (1981-1983/ 1990-1992). Between 1984 und 1989 he studied painting and drawing at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe, where he experienced his first and intense contact with photography.
Since 2000 Johannes has worked as a press photographer, first for local newspapers, later for the German news agency DDP and the French news agency AFP. From 2007 to 2009 he was a staff photographer for the international photo agency Getty Images, covering news and sports in Germany and abroad.
In 2009 Johannes chose to return to freelance status, working primarily for Getty and for the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung. In addition to his photographic work Johannes never stopped painting, He has had various solo and group exhibitions in Germany, Italy, France and the Netherlands.

Johannes Simon est né en 1960 à Munich (Allemagne). Il habite actuellement en France dans le Morvan en Bourgogne.
Fils du peintre Erwin Schott et de Berta Simon passionée par la peinture, la litterature et la musique il est baigné dans le monde de l’art dès sa petite enfance,et y consacrera sa vie.
Apres son bac Johannes Simon étudie l’histoire de l’art, la philosophie et le Latin du moyen age à l’universités de Heidelberg et de Munich (1981-1983/ 1990-1992).
Entre 1984 et 1989 il étudie la peinture et le dessin à l’Academie des Beaux Arts à Karlsruhe. La bas premiere contact intense avec la photographie.
À partir de 2000 il travaille en tant que photographe de presse, au debut pour quelques journeaux locaux à Munich, ensuite pour l‘agence de presse allemand DDP et pour l’agence de presse francais AFP. Dès 2007 il est engagé comme photographe employé de l’agence photo Getty Images. Il est envoyé pour les missions internationals, participants aux eventments de politics, des sports et d’actualités en general. 2009 il decide encore travailler sur propre compte restant quand meme en proche cooperation avec Getty Images. Jusqu’au 2018 son client principal est le Sueddeutsche Zeitung, l’un des journaux les plus reputes d’Allemagne.
À coté de la photographie il n’a jamais arreté de peindre. Il a participé aux divers expositions (seul ou en groupe) en Allemagne, Italie, la France et en Pay Bas.
